Sun Life launched its educational philanthropic effort in 2009. Dedicated to improving the high school graduation rate in the United States, the Sun Life Rising Stars program provides grants to non-profit organizations that inspire underserved students to stay in school and pursue the dream of college. They also provide scholarships to students who are served by the grantee organizations. The ROZ Group works closely with Sun Life in the areas of strategic planning, relationship building in the cities where Sun Life conducts its business. Additionally, we facilitated “think tank” sessions in six Sun Life cities as a way to strengthen the input from school districts on the issues that are important to educators, parents, and community organizers. These sessions were key to understanding the nuances unique to each area and to ensuring that Sun Life was listening to the people it hopes to serve.
